Every family we support has a story. Here are a few of theirs.

Bridging the Gap
In 2001, Edgewood Middle School began a November tradition of collecting food to stock local food banks. During that first drive, Principal JoElla Hauselman overheard a student say, "Man, I sure wish my family could receive some of this food." That comment revealed the need wasn't just out in the community—it was inside her own school. From that moment, JoElla committed to making sure Edgewood families had access to food over the two-week Christmas break.
In summer 2024, JoElla felt compelled to see this same support extended to every Warsaw school family who needed it. She knew this vision would take help, so she called on local churches to make it happen. That initiative reached over 300 families—and from it grew a desire to support families through fall and spring break as well, not just Christmas. The school knew it couldn't carry that expanded vision alone, so a partnership formed: Edgewood would continue overseeing Christmas food boxes, while LovEd's school partnerships would take on fall and spring break coverage.
Distributing these food boxes isn't just a simple handoff. With the help of the churches, families build personal connections and discover other resources available to them in their community.
As of spring 2026, LovEd formed new collaborations to expand this work into Wawasee Schools and Mentone Elementary, with hopes of covering all three breaks for these districts beginning in the 2026-27 school year.
From Crises to Connection
When a local elementary school welcomed a new family, a single parent and their children, teachers and staff quickly recognized they’d just come through a hard season, having nearly avoided losing their housing altogether. Housing was an important first step, but plenty of needs remained. The family still needed food, furniture, appliances, and the basic necessities for starting over.
That’s when the Alliance for Thriving Families stepped in and connected the dots. Through the combined efforts of the school, the Alliance, CarePortal, Warsaw Community Church, and the church’s LovEd Team, those needs were quickly met. And just as importantly, the family was connected to safe relationships and resources they could lean on going forward.
Months later, that partnership continues. Together, the school, the LovEd Team, and the church are still walking alongside this family in Kosciusko County, helping them build meaningful connections, access to ongoing support, and moving toward long-term stability.
This is what collective impact looks like in practice: schools, churches, and community organizations working together so no family falls through the cracks. When we coordinate instead of duplicate, families get real, tangible help. With hope, dignity, and practical support at every step.
